My name is Jennifer and I am the head cook here at It Ain't Meat, Babe.
I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and I have lived here since 1999. I was born in Ontario in 1975, but spent a big chunk of my childhood living in Saudi Arabia, so I am one of the more well-traveled homebodies you'll ever meet.
Cooking is a big hobby for me, but my first passion is writing, especially fiction writing. If you like stories of teen angst and rock 'n roll, you may want to read my first novel, Grrrl, which was published by the good people at Gorsky Press in 2006. I currently review albums and write about music for their sister publication, Razorcake Magazine, one of the best indie publications out there, in my opinion. I'm slowly working on a second novel, which also has nothing to do with food.
Prior to May 2009, I lived with my dog, Sacha, in a great one bedroom apartment which you can see here if you're curious. Sacha and I left that apartment to be with my lovely partner, The Man of Science, and his two dogs in a house that is full of noise and food and fur and goofiness. My favourite part of the house is my vegetable garden which I have been working on since I moved in. I am still very much a trial and error gardener, but what I lack in expertise I make up for in excitement.
In August of 2010 the Man of Science and I ran away to Las Vegas and got married. It was super-rad times infinity.
When I have spare time that isn't filled up with cooking, I read a lot of books, listen to a lot of music, and hang out with my excellent friends. I'm also a bit of a TV addict, and if you read this blog you'll hear me talk about everything from Top Chef to The Bachelorette. And if I haven't mentioned Degrassi yet, well, just you wait. It's coming.
If you have questions or comments I'd love to hear from you. You can leave a comment on a post or just e-mail me here: jwhiteford (at) gmail (dot) com.
